Nature Canada is a member-based non-profit nature conservation organization dedicated to protecting nature, its diversity, and the processes that sustain it. With strategies based on sound science and passion for nature, Nature Canada effects change on issues of national significance, including bird conservation, wilderness protection, species at risk and national parks. Through public outreach and education we work to build a nature ethic among Canadians.
As a member of the Development & Marketing Team, the Manager, Major Gifts is responsible for the development and implementation of major gift, corporate and foundation fundraising strategies with a goal of securing funding for Nature Canada's conservation programs. Reporting to the Director of Development & Marketing, the Manager, Major Gifts develops, maintains and enhances many diverse partnerships with individuals, corporations and foundations.
- Identify opportunities for the development of new revenue sources.
- Design and implement appropriate solicitation, recognition and stewardship strategies in support of major gift individual, corporate and foundation fundraising that includes researching and cultivating potential individuals, corporate donations, and foundations.
- Provides leadership, direction, training, expertise and support to the internal stakeholders to achieve the corporate, foundation and personal giving budget.
- Develop funding proposals for corporate, foundation and individual funding opportunities.
- Develop an annual fundraising plan for the major gifts program.
- Participate in and/or lead the implementation of major gift fundraising strategies.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the major gift fundraising activities including regular reporting of activities.
- Work with volunteers, board members and community partners in the realization of Nature Canada’s strategic plan in regards to major gift fundraising.
- Research current fundraising trends and communicate pertinent issues and information to the Development & Marketing team.
- Contribute to the development of the Development & Marketing budget, including establishing financial targets and program expense projections for corporate major gift fundraising.
- Excellent public relations and interpersonal skills in dealing with staff, donors, partners, volunteers and the public
- Post secondary education in marketing, communications, public relations, fundraising or related program
- CFRE designation or equivalent is a definite asset
- Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in fund development with a proven track record of securing major gifts at the level of $50,000+
- Excellent presentation skills with the ability to negotiate and create win-win partnerships
- Previous volunteer management experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft office software; relevant donor management software, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellence in multi-project management, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is strongly preferred
