Nature Canada has chosen to partner with White Swan in recognition of the steps it has taken to adopt environmentally responsible manufacturing practices, and to encourage other industry leaders to adopt greener ways of operating.
Nature Canada recommends that consumers consider the following things when shopping for paper products:
- Are all elements of the product including core, cartons and packaging recyclable?
- Is the product manufactured using environmentally recycled fibre or virgin fibre from sources using sustainable forest management practices?
- Have efforts been made to reduce packaging?
- Does the Bathroom Tissue product break down easily for low-flow toilet systems and septic tanks?
- Does the product use environmentally safe inks?
- Has the manufacturer sought independent, third party certification?
The following White Swan products, bearing Nature Canada’s logo, meet the aforementioned environmentally responsible criteria:

White Swan offers both 1 and 2 ply bathroom tissue that is ideal for today's environmentally-conscious customers made with 100% recycled fibres. White Swan regular is a 1-ply product while White Swan Deluxe is a softer, thicker 2-ply that offers convenience and comfort while still caring for the environment. Both products are septic friendly and EcoLogo certified.
You can find these products on retail, grocery and drug store shelves nationally.
None of White Swan's pulp comes from ancient boreal forests.
White Swan products manufactured in their Eastern Canada mills use 100% recycled fibre, of which 80% comes from post-consumer material. Approximately 80% of their entire White Swan volume is manufactured in these Eastern mills.
Poly packaging that is used for White Swan Bathroom Tissue, Paper Towels and Napkins, is recyclable where community programs exist and contains a minimum of 10% Post Industrial Material.
White Swan has received EcoLogo certification for all facial tissue, bathroom tissue, napkins and paper towels manufactured in their Eastern mills. Launched by the Government of Canada in 1988, EcoLogo is North America’s most widely known and universally respected multi-attribute environmental standard. A clear certification of environmental leadership, EcoLogo helps consumers identify green products and services that meet stringent environmental standards verified by an independent third party auditor.
The balance (20%) of White Swan products are manufactured in their Western Canada mill, which uses a combination of groundwood pulp (about 50%) and virgin pulp (50%).
Groundwood pulp is produced from supervised, renewable tree farms using sustainable forestry management techniques. The virgin pulp for White Swan does not come from the Boreal Forest. It comes from preferred, certified vendors who follow sustainable forestry practices.
White Swan is a proud supporter of Nature Canada. In existence for over 75 years, White Swan is a well-known Canadian paper tissue brand competing in napkins, septic friendly bathroom tissue, paper towels and facial tissue categories.
