ButterflyWatch

What is ButterflyWatch?
ButterflyWatch

ButterflyWatch is the latest addition to the NatureWatch series of “citizen science” ecological monitoring programs. Developed and delivered in partnership with Nature Canada and Environment Canada’s Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Network (EMAN) Coordinating Office, ButterflyWatch is designed to engage Canadians in tracking distribution trends of selected butterfly indicators. This will help scientists to better understand the status of the environment and potential climate change impacts.

ButterflyWatch allows you and participants of all ages to learn more about ecological indicators and the importance of protecting Canadian butterflies and their habitats.

NatureWatch volunteers will be able to begin submitting data soon. Watch this page for more details!

When you submit your data electronically, it will be automatically entered into a national database of butterfly observations. By helping record the distribution of different butterfly species you are instantly providing information about the health of butterfly populations!
