Clean and abundant water is essential to ensuring human health and the health of our economy. The majority of the world’s population lives near and depends on freshwater environments to provide drinking and irrigation water, food, employment and recreation. But freshwater occupies only 0.8 percent of the Earth’s surface, and the demand for water grows every year.
What can you do? Take the Water Conservation Pledge and promise to reduce your consumption by 10 gallons (38 litres) a day!
Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide are necessary for life on this planet. But in the last 200 years, human activity has released more CO2 than our planet can handle – too many gases are remaining trapped inside our atmosphere, more than at any time in the last 800,000 years. These gases, which also include methane and nitrous oxide, are causing our planet to warm up – and the results of this global warming of our planet are becoming more dramatic every day.
