Flickers by Chris Beers

These Northern Flickers (Colaptes auratus) had nearly fledged, meaning they were ready to leave the nest, when Chris Beers snapped this photo earlier in the summer. Judging from the red moustache present on these young ones, these appear to be red-shafted northern flickers, which were considered a separate species until the early 1980s.
