Katy Alambo

Work to Grow Organizer

Katy Alambo was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area and completed her BSc. H in Biology at the University of Waterloo before moving to Ottawa, where she earned her MSc. in Biology at the University of Ottawa. Her master’s research focused on the occurrence of harmful algal blooms in Northern Canada. After her studies, Katy worked in environmental consulting, but soon discovered her love for the ENGO sector through her connection with the Ottawa River watershed and passion to make science accessible to all through Community Science iniatives.

Katy brings over five years of experience in nature nonprofits and a decade of navigating the environmental sector as a woman of colour. While her journey hasn’t always been easy, Katy’s dedication to nature and environmental protection has been deeply rewarding. She is also a strong advocate for mental health and well-being, constantly seeking ways to integrate these values into her work.

As the Work to Grow Organizer, Katy is committed to championing youth. Her goal is to create an inclusive and supportive environment that empowers young BIPOC professionals to thrive in the nature sector.
