WonderGrove for Birds Animated Series

"A WonderGrove for Birds" is an environmental science animated series that demonstrates the ways in which young learners in grades K-6 can develop an interest in their environment by focusing on the needs and behaviors of birds in and around their home. Through this series, children will discover how birds help our environment and what we can do right now to create habitats and/or restore habitats where birds can thrive.

These environmental science lessons were inspired by Nature’s Best Hope, Young Readers’ Edition (https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Best-Hope-Young-Readers/dp/1643262149) by Douglas W. Tallamy. He is the co-founder of Homegrown National Park® (https://homegrownnationalpark.org/ ).

This series was created by Terry Thoren, the former CEO of Klasky Csupo, Inc., the company that created The Wild Thornberrys. Mr. Thoren has a lifelong passion for birds, inspired by nine glorious years as a child making weekend visits to the beautiful 220-acre Sapsucker Woods Sanctuary at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY.

Terry has allowed us to use the videos for both our Bird Friendly City Program and our NatureHood Program. The script for the “Make Windows Safer” video was guided by the expertise of our BFC organizer, Autumn Jordon of Nature Canada, Flap.org, Feather Friendly and the Calgary Urban Species Response Team!
