Canadians Elect a Nature Majority

Nature Canada congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney and highlights Canadians\' overwhelming call to defend nature as a core part of national identity.

Statement from Emily McMillan, Executive Director of Nature Canada, on the 2025 Canadian Election Results

Nature Canada congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney and his caucus on their election victory. We are encouraged to see many of the priorities we championed reflected in the new government’s commitments and throughout the campaign across party lines. Canadians expect action. Nature cannot wait, and neither can we.

With Canadian sovereignty under pressure, we have been heartened by polling that shows nature is highly valued as the strongest symbol of Canadian identity, ahead of hockey, maple syrup, and even the flag. Throughout this election, Nature Canada stood as a strong voice for nature, and through our Nature Platform, set a standard for what nature needs from the next government.

While the Liberal Party will form a minority government, this election has delivered something even more powerful: a Nature majority. Across all parties, most elected Members of Parliament made clear commitments to protecting nature. Canadians have spoken with one voice, and their message is simple: defending nature is defending Canada.
